Los niños dicen muchas tonterías / Kids say the darnedest things
¡Vamos!
Quoting one of the greatest lines in "Friends", that's how I start this post.
Sure there weren't any kids. And nobody said anything. But it seemed fit at the time to title this post with that sentence.
I went to the supermarket today at like 9 pm cause I wanted to get an icecream. But then I remembered I've recently been diagnosed with intolerance to lactose. And guess what?? Ice cream has tons of diary for some reason. Maybe that's why they have the "cream" part on the name. Huh...
Anyways, feeling all frustrated about the ice cream thing, I resorted to a less painful way to eat. And I remembered this awesome sauce I got this one time at the supermarket. At that moment I mixed it with rice, one of the forbidden foods for me now, and today I had to be resourceful and run around the aisles to find something else to mix it with. Because sticking a spoon and licking it is just wrong, kids!! But so delicious, on the other hand. Yet of little nutritional value.
Aaaaanyways. The queue at the checkout was like 15 minutes long, but there wasn't any other way out if I wanted to take the loot with me. So I waited. Like a normal person. And while I was waiting, I came across a box of those Christmas-y sweets they make here in Spain where they mix sugar with nuts and whatever and they call it goodness. The funny thing was what was written on the box. It said "XX from organic production", as in "organic farming". WTF, man? Now the Christmasy sweets come from trees?? Since when??
I know I'm being silly here, but there were a thousand, more correct ways of writing that same sentence and not seeming like you have a pot on your window with sweets hanging from branches and whatnot.
I'm the first one who's always playing with the language and making up stupid words, but I don't do that in a serious work environment. Specially if you mean to sell the stuff.
You don't know it yet, people, but you need to put a translator/language specialist in your life like now. 2010 is a good year to start. And I'm available!!
Now go think about what you say and what you write. Go!
